For the past few months, I’ve been trying to focus on getting back to foundations. The highest priority has been providing any and all support to my wife as she’s having an absolute banger of a season with her work and projects. Over the last 6+ years, I’ve watched and marveled at how much she did to keep our homes and family running smoothly while also running a successful agency. I figure that if we can take the opportunity to stress test our systems and priorities while also ensuring that she’s getting everything she needs during a high-volume work period, then we can probably make it work when things aren’t as stressful.
Grab some grapes and let’s get to it:
What I’ve shipped since last month:
I wrote these newsletter posts:
This past month hasn’t seen a ton of shipping, but sometimes you need to lay the foundation before you start building.
What went well:
Family: Not going to lie… I’ve been absolutely smashing it on the family front. As the wifey is in a power month of shipping, and we’ve been spending some quality time with our extended family, I’m really grateful for how much time I’ve been able to spend with the kiddo. He’s at a really special age where I’m able to see and hear him learning and growing every single day.
Work: I’ve done a solid job of supporting my client this past month. We hired an additional contractor to help me with the tech stack that I’m not familiar with and he’s doing a great job so far. I think that can be chalked up as solid delegation and management.
Focus: consumption and distractions have been pretty low lately (probably due to so much family time). I limited my Twitter usage and haven’t been procrastinating as much. I also haven’t been adding to my list of potential projects, which is nice.
What went poorly:
Coding: Haven’t been able to get much coding done. I have a couple of projects that I’m doing prep work for, but only one will really be code/software based. I need to figure out a better way to prioritize this more, as it really gives me energy and generally how I feel productive.
Writing: Getting my daily tweets on Twitter and weekly newsletters tackled has become a bit cumbersome. While I enjoy the process and think it’s generally beneficial, I don’t want the pressure to prevent me from actually shipping other things. Finding that balance in everything I want to do has still been tricky and elusive.
Asks:
No asks. I just hope you are enjoying the summer with your friends and family.
