To be totally frank, I’ve been putting this off, as I don’t feel like I have anything interesting to share. If the point of this is to keep people in the loop about my life, I’m not even really sure this update is very interesting/helpful. The last month has seen the need for greater rest while allowing me some amazing time with my family, but it also means some slowed momentum on the work front.
For now, let’s start by getting this to your inbox, get the laundry folded, and get the boy to swim class. Fingers crossed we can get back to rested/healthy and be able to get some projects over the finish line.
What I’ve shipped since last month:
Not much to talk about here. Hopefully we can turn this around again soon.
What went well:
Family: Had an amazing time in upstate/western New York with friends and family. Feel like the boy had a really amazing summer, one that I would be jealous of as a kid. He continues to light up our world and constantly make us laugh. The wife continues to crush it and I’m just so insanely proud of her and everything she’s building.
Focus: Can’t really say if my focus has been super great this past month (which might account for some of the lack of productivity) but I’m chalking it up to a win because I’ve been able to consistently prioritize family first, my health second, and then work gets whatever left over. That leftover piece is where I feel like I probably could have managed a bit better, but we made it through. So again: win.
What went poorly:
Coding: Not enough time and ability to focus. Got stuck on some pretty complicated interfaces but finally made my way through and hoping to keep the movement going.
Writing: I miss writing, but it just feels like such a luxury that needs to take a back seat. I have a couple of things I’d like to get out, but they need some serious time to really work through and flesh out.
Work: My current client is going well, and we are slowly making progress, but it’s been a bit of an adjustment to change how I evaluate myself and how I personally measure success.
Asks:
Fall is probably my favorite season. What are you most looking forward to in the next couple of months as we (northern hemisphere) head out of summer?
Honestly looking forward to leveling up my soup game
